Background
Health Informatics Association of Malawi (HIAM) is a non-profit making organization established in 2015. The main purpose of HIAM is to improve access and promote delivery of Quality Health Services through the application and use of health informatics in Malawi. Through HIAM, health informatics tools, processes and behaviours that make it easy to do the right thing, in the right way, at the right time to improve healthcare for all, in general support healthcare workers including clinicians, researchers, patients and people. The membership of the association is multidisciplinary comprising of healthcare workers including clinicians, Nurses, Laboratory Scientists, Pharmacists, researchers, ICT professionals and other players in health services delivery.
HIAM Mission Statement:
To be a major strategic partner of the Malawi Ministry of Health and other players in the health system promoting and facilitating the development, application and use of Health informatics in the country.
HIAM Objectives:
- To create awareness and advocate the field of Health informatics in Malawi.
- Some Proposed Activities:
- Register HIAM as a non-profit making health informatics organization
- Produce HIAM promotional materials
- Develop Health Informatics membership Registration system
- Conduct Health Informatics meetings in collaboration with other professional medical, health, technical colleges, associations and other strategic stakeholders.
- To conduct trainings in Health Informatics and health data management systems
- Work with relevant Universities to establish short and long term Health Informatics courses
- Engage the media to promote health informatics
- To bring together health professionals and stakeholders for promoting health informatics and health data use in the Malawi health services delivery system.

- Promote innovation and creativity in Health Informatics, health data management and use for delivery of quality health services

- Facilitate consultancies and research in the field of health informatics
- Organise Health Informatics symposia in collaboration with other stake holders
- Conduct research and produce policy briefs in Health services delivery and health informatics.
- To promote the implementation of ethical, modern and evidence based health informatics to enhance access to quality health services in Malawi.
